Dr. Anita Baruah Sarmah born in Guwahati,
schooling in Loreto Convent Shillong, Graduated from Loreto
Darjeeling, Post Graduate from NEHU, Shillong, Ph. D from
Gauhati University under the guidance of Dr. HirenGohain,
married to Dr. Zoii Nath Sarmah, founder of NERIM, blessed
with son Rananjoy and daughter Priyanka.
Completed 3 months studies in Cambridge University for
a condense course in English.
Parental Background:
She was held from a family of reputed Tea Planter Lt.
Prasanna Kumar Baruah of Dibrugarh who hosted Mahatma
Gandhi in the year 1921 and 1935 during his visit to Assam.
Both Father and Mother of Dr. Anita Baruah Sarmah were
Scholastic personalities of the country. Her father late
Dr. Hitendra Kumar Baruah was a leading Botanist of international
repute. He was awarded Ph.D by Cambridge University. Dr.
Baruah started his career as Professor of Botany in Calcutta
University. He joined Gauhati University as founder Professor
in Botany and subsequently adorned the Chair of Vice-
Chancellor.
Her mother Dr. Parukutty Baruah born in Kerela, M.Sc from
Banaras Hindu University, MA from Cambridge University,
Ph.D from Cambridge University and was a teacher in Lady
Brobin College, Calcutta and Retired as Principal from
Cotton College Guwahati. She was also Governor's nominee
in the Executive Council of Gauhati University. In her
lifetime, under her guidance 42 scholars were awarded
Ph.D in Botany from Gauhati University.
Achievements:
Dr. Anita Baruah Sarmah was a rank holder in Indian School
Certificate Examination, First Class in Graduation and
First Class in MA in English.
She started her Teaching career in the Department of English,
Gauhati University and while she was Head of the Department,
she breathed her last on April 7, 2005.
